This introductory training course equips new and aspiring school representatives with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively support union members in their workplace. Hosted by experienced trainers from the teaching unions, the programme provides a clear overview of the rep’s role, responsibilities, and rights, as well as the support available from the wider union network.
Participants will explore how to:
- Represent members in workplace matters and act as a first point of contact.
- Communicate union policies and campaigns effectively within their school.
- Identify and address workplace issues, including workload, wellbeing, and contractual rights.
- Build positive working relationships with school leadership while safeguarding members’ interests.
- Access resources, legal guidance, and support from union regional and national teams.
The course blends practical exercises, case studies, and scenario-based discussions to build real-world confidence. Attendees will leave with a strong foundation for their role, a toolkit of key documents and contacts, and a network of fellow reps to share strategies and experiences.
By the end of the induction, participants will be ready to represent members fairly, uphold professional standards, and contribute to building a stronger, more supportive school community.
