About this course
The school representative is the first point of contact for members and the link between the staffroom and the union. It is a genuinely important role, and this induction day gives you the grounding to carry it out well from the start.
The course is run jointly by UTU, INTO and NEU. It is practical rather than theoretical, built around discussion and worked examples, and there is no expectation of prior experience.
What the day covers
The role of the school rep and how it fits alongside your teaching job
Your legal rights: time off, facilities and protection from detriment
Recruiting, organising and communicating with members in your school
Recognition arrangements and how the joint unions work together
Handling a first enquiry from a member and knowing when to refer it on
Where to find advice, casework support and further training
Who should attend
Newly appointed school representatives, anyone considering taking on the role, and existing reps who have never had formal induction training.
