Raymond Caldwell, the Director of Curriculum, Assessment, Teacher Education, and Professional Learning, has written to inform principals about the statutory Key Stage Assessment arrangements for the 2023-24 academic year. The Department will continue to dis-apply the requirements for schools to carry out Key Stage Assessment, aiming to reduce the workload of schools and teachers while maintaining a focus on classroom teaching. Additionally, there is a commitment to commence a review and make policy recommendations regarding the purpose, nature, and design of Key Stage Assessment in Northern Ireland, with input from a practitioner working group. However, the requirements of the Education (Pupil Reporting) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 regarding pupil reports will continue to apply to all schools. The letter expresses gratitude for ongoing commitment to supporting children and young people.
