UTU Update - February 2020

24th Feb 2020

We hope you had a restful half-term and have come back ready for the next one!

The following information pertains to the coming weeks.

Pay Deal negotiations are awaiting news of the outcome of the Education Minister’s budget bid which he put in last Wednesday. When and if the appropriate funding is secured all members will be balloted to accept or reject the Pay/Workload Deal. The NITC Unions have negotiated a proposed Agreement with Management Side which comes in three parts.

  1. Immediate changes to workload and working practices
  2. A pay offer up to 2018/19 which will be backdated as appropriate
  3. A series of reviews which will be the subject of negotiation moving forward

All teachers will receive a copy of the Agreement and there will be a series of meetings across the province for you to attend before you make your decision. Transition arrangements are contained therein for coming off industrial action.

The Minister will be in attendance at our Annual Conference and progress is expected to be a key element of his address.

Branch meetings are currently underway to consider resolutions for Annual Conference. Whether it is your intention to attend Conference or not we would encourage you to attend to keep abreast of current discussions.

The election for representation on the Central Executive Committee from the North-Eastern Area Association opens today, 24th February, and will be open for two weeks. Election papers and information will come to the home address of all members in the following Branches: Causeway, Mid-Antrim and Carrick/Abbey/Larne. If you do not receive your election papers please contact HQ on 90662216 as soon as possible to ensure you have your say.

We have had a number of issues raised by Principals around the new arrangements issued in regard to the Management and Administration of Private School Funds and the workload involved. We are seeking clarification on the issues raised and will report back as a matter of priority. If you attend one of the information sessions this week please raise your concerns with EA representatives.

We have also been encouraged to report back on the new EA One recruitment system. If your school is recruiting, or if you are a member who is applying for employment using the system, please feed back to us on your experience at
