Dear Colleague
SEVERANCE ARRANGEMENTS
As you know the severance package for redundancy this year is set at three times the normal redundancy payment. I have enclosed full details of how the payment is calculated – please pass a copy to each UTU member. If any UTU member requires further assistance, or if you would like a visit from a UTU Official, then please do not hesitate in contacting us.
The Employing Authorities will be asking schools to supply names of those teachers who are considering volunteering for either redundancy or transferred redundancy to them by 17th February so teachers will need to decide very soon if they wish to volunteer.
This year there will be a central “clearing-house” system to ensure that there is maximum flexibility for teachers wishing to be redeployed. Further details will be sent to you about how this system is to work following a meeting with representatives from Management Side at UTU Headquarters on 20th February 2012.
INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Please distribute the news-sheet on Industrial Action to each member of UTU so that they are brought up to date with current advice. We hope to be able to update you fairly soon on the decisions being taken by our colleagues in England and Wales with regard to signing the “Heads of Agreement” document on the proposed new Pensions Scheme.
Representatives of the unions met with Department of Education Officials recently regarding the proposals to increase Pension contributions from 1st April 2012. We made it quite clear that we are totally opposed to these increases but were told that the Minister has committed to it and will simply consider how he wishes to implement measures to take the additional money from teachers.
REMEMBER – YOUR LOCAL UNION IS ONLY A PHONECALL AWAY. WE CAN ARRANGE TO VISIT YOUR SCHOOL AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY.
Yours sincerely
Avril Hall-Callaghan, GENERAL SECRETARY
