Normal, Early, Phased Retirement

1. Normal Retirement --------- Age 60+

(a) Letter of resignation submitted to Board of Governors 3 to 4 months prior to retirement date.

(Notice period 4 months if resignation date is end of August or September and 3 months if resignation date is at any other time.)

(b) Form TP4 completed and returned to Teachers' Pensions' Branch via employer 3 to 4 months prior to date on which pension is to commence.

2. Early Retirement ---- Age 55 and prior to 60th birthday.

Actuarially reduced pension .

(a) Letter of resignation submitted at least 6 months prior to retirement date.

(b) TP4 completed and returned to Teachers' Pensions' Branch via employer 3 to 4 months prior to date on which pension is to commence.

Employer may withhold consent for up to 6 months following written resignation.  

3. Phased retirement ------ Age 55 and prior to 60th birthday.

(Available only to teachers in pensionable employment on or after 1/04/2007.)

Employment must be reduced by at least 25% for at least 12months prior to normal pension age. Part of pension will be drawn (actuarially reduced) and salary paid for the fraction still worked.

•  Letter indicating intention to seek phased retirement and the fraction by which contract is to be reduced should be submitted to Board of Governors 6 months prior to date on which it is intended to begin the reduction.

•  Form TP4 should be completed and returned 3 to 4 months prior to date on which part of pension is to be drawn.

Employer may withhold consent for up to 6 months following written request for phased retirement.
